POEMS FROM A MANCHESTER LAD
OUCH!
PEACE LOVE AND WAR

MOVING HOUSE

One day when I arrived home from school
My family hadf moved without telling me
But they'd left things behind
There was the tatty three-piece suite
The radiogramme
And the bed I shared with my three brothers
Then I saw my brother Sid
And I asked him why me moved
He said "Dave we've not moved anywhere
We've been evicted"

TOO SEE TOO MUCH

Look through my eye
you'll find nothing there
To mask or disguise
The feelings I carry
For you
As a seed comes to life
So do I
You bring to me a smile
A touch
I know
I love you
Perhaps too much

PLEASANT DREAMS

We never paid the miulkman
Never paid the rent
Early on Tuesday morning
To the pawnbrokers I was sent
We'd get a few bob for
My Mum's wedding ring
It stopped us starving
We'd buy some food and other things
I'd get a bottle of mineral
And a packet of custard creams
And I'd go to bed quite happy
Wrapped up in pleasant dreams

YOU'RE IN FOR IT

Wait till your Dad comes home
My Mum tol,d me and our Sid
But fortunately for us
He never did

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Twelve o'clock on a Saturday night
Time approaches for another fight
The bedroom's dark and full of silence
Time once more for domestic violence
Voices raised the point is near
Hid under blankets
Surrounded by fear
Punches thrown
Sc reams of pain
Kicks to the body
A head banging on
A wall
More screams then to the floor
She'll fall
The bedroom's dark and full of silence
The time has passed
For domestic violence
